Cytosine, scientific name 4-amino-2-carbonylpyrimidine, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C4H5N3O. It is one of the main base components in nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). Cytosine can be synthesized from dimethyl uracil, and chloroacetic acid as raw materials. Used as a pharmaceutical intermediate.

Abbreviated as C. One of the pyrimidine type bases in nucleic acid. It exists in DNA and RNA. In plant DNA, in addition to cytosine, there is also a small amount of 5-methylcytosine. In the double helix of DNA, cytosine on one strand pairs with guanine on the other strand, forming three hydrogen bonds between molecules. This hydrogen bond between base complementary pairs is one of the important forces for the stability of DNA double helix. It is mainly used in the synthesis of anti-AIDS drugs and anti-hepatitis B drugs lamivudine, anticancer drugs gemcitabine, enoxabine and 5- Fluorocytosine, etc., is widely used.
Cytosine (C) is one of the four main bases found in DNA and RNA, along with adenine, guanine, and thymine (uracil in RNA).
Cytosine reagent is used in a wide variety of research applications, as an enzyme substrate or precursor of effector molecules such as cytosine sugars.
