Properties
1. High strength:
Compared to traditional austenitic stainless steels (such as 304 and 316), the tensile strength and yield strength of SAF 2507 are significantly improved, which makes it able to withstand higher loads and pressures. This is mainly due to the high strength contribution of its ferritic phase.
2. Excellent corrosion resistance:
SAF 2507 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in various corrosive media, especially in chloride environments (such as seawater). Its high chromium and molybdenum content provide good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The addition of nitrogen further improves its corrosion resistance.
3. Stress corrosion Cracking (SCC) resistance:
SAF 2507 is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking, which makes it very reliable in applications that are subjected to stress while being exposed to corrosive environments. This is crucial in areas such as the oil and gas industry.
4. Good weldability:
Although welding requires the use of appropriate processes and welding materials to avoid embrittlement in the heat affected zone (HAZ), SAF 2507 has generally good weldability.
5. Good formability:
Although it is slightly worse than austenitic stainless steel, SAF 2507 still has good cold formability and can be formed by bending, stamping and other forming processes.
6. Wear resistance:
The wear resistance of SAF 2507 is also relatively good, which makes it also has application value in some wear environments.
7. Toughness:
Although the strength is high, SAF 2507 still maintains a certain toughness, avoiding the problem of too brittle.
